I've been to a dietitian on the advice of my doc. I've been fighting off diabeties - successfully so far - for a few years now. But, it's time to stop playing games and get rid of this excess weight once and for all. So, I'm keeping a food and exercise journal. And I'm wearing a pedometer all day to track the number of steps I take each day. The goal is a minimum of 10,000 steps.
The nutritionist wants me to eat every 2-3 hours to keep my metabolism going. She swears I'm going to loose weight this way.

I have to eat protein every time I eat - 15-20 grams. (what's a gram?)
I have to have snacks between lunch and dinner - protein of course.
And she wants me to walk 6-7 days a week for exercise.
Also, she wants me to be on the lookout for High Fructose Corn Syrup and Trans-Fats on any labels of foods that I eat. I am not supposed to eat them. Evidently, these foods "fool" the hormone leptin, in our bodies, into storing fat, (especially around the middle), and also don't allow us to recognize when we are full, so that's why we tend to overeat.
So, those are the three duties I have had to do this week for her. Not bad. I've been very good on the food and exercise journal. It's been an eye opener, really. I eat much better than I though! ANd my calorie intake is not that bad!
But, for now, anyway, I'm not drinking near anything, (I mean like alcohol), 1. because my stomach is a mess and 2. because I'm trying to loose weight. But, I've only lost one pound! This is in 5 days! And I *know* it's because of all this damn eating she's requiring! I *never* eat all these stupid snacks! And I *told* her I was going to gain weight doing this. The string cheese has 90 calories; the protein drinks has 180!!! And she *recommended* them! This is junk I would never have eaten! That's 270 calories a day I wouldn't have had! And the protein drink also has fructose! I don't know if that's the *exact* same thing but, it's too close for my comfort!
Anyway, I see her on Wednesday, and she'll see my journal. I'm looking forward to what she has to say. My calorie intake is good; my exercise is fair to good, and sometimes just great! (Today was hot as hades; and I was running around doing errands all day, so didn't get too much in the way of exercise done but some gardening.) So, I look forward to what she has to say. Cuz, I know those "extras" are on the way OUT!
Anyway, the purpose of this thread was to share my experience and also to let you all know of a site I found that's very VERY helpful in keeping track of our food and exercise on a daily basis. It also breaks down the nutritional analysis of MANY foods and has a place for us to put in our own stuff too that they don't have. The site is
Calorie Counter Database - Free Online Diet Program It's a free service, and it's awesome!
I hope this posts, cuz, I can't seem to post on another forum....
Shalom!
