(((Rachel)))
I used the patches and they helped me a lot, however by the time I got to step 3, I didn't even need them. I really, really wanted to quit, though. I was just sick of throwing my money away on cigarettes, tired of smelling like a cigarette, tired of the whole business of smoking - having to go outside wherever I was, not being allowed to smoke inside anywhere.
If it makes you feel any better, I just recently passed my 4 month anniversary and I have gained 5 pounds, but that's more because it's the wrong time of the month than because of the not smoking. I now Trish used the dum-dum lollipops to suck on, some people get the twizzler licorice sticks to chew on. I knew a guy, years ago, that just kept peppermint candies on him and he would pop on of those in his mouth instead of something more fattening.
I also knew a friend that initially gained about 10 pounds, but lost it again before a month was up. She started walking and it not only helped with the weight, but helped with the stress too.
You can do it, hon. I won't say it's easy at first. The first time I tried to do it cold turkey, I wasn't really 100% into it, I just wnated to save the money, but I resented having to quit. I ate everything that wasn't nailed down and I didn't make it 2 weeks.
THIS time, I wanted to quit with all my heart. I didn't resent having to quit..as a matter of fact, I looked at it as a gift to myself. I even bought myself a blackberry phone after 3 months to celebrate.
You CAN do it, it just means deciding that this is something you want to do, a gift that you are giving yourself and the people who love you. I promise..it won't be long at all and you'll be amazed..you'll have a hard time remembeing that you used to smoke...I do.
It's great to see you here, and I hope you keep checking in!
Hugs and prayers!
Amy
