I'll bet when you do sprints, you will find that your overall time exercising will go down, and when you run distance, you will be increasingly able to run for longer and longer times.
The sprints will help you gain speed.
The only point that I would make is try not to run too long or too fast too soon. That’s a good way to hurt yourself, and you will not be able to run at all for a while.
