From personal experience 5ml a week is too fast. Methadone is a strong drug and will take longer to leave his system.
My husband detoxed off methadone 9 months ago. When he got to 30 mls he slowed the reduction rate to 5mls a month, then 2.5 a month and so on till he was off completely.
