I just spent 10 days with family and friends at a cottage near the beach, there were a few people in our group who drank, and on the island it seemed like alcohol was present just about everywhere. When the cravings came up, I picked up my Big Book and started reading, and I was able to make it to a small meeting at a church.
These answers work for me when someone offers me a drink:
* No.
* No thank you.
* No, I don't drink, but thanks.
You get the picture, right?
No is a word, and most people are usually pretty accepting and respectful of it. Of course, if that doesn't work, you can always say:
* Sure, I'd love a drink, and while you're at it you might want to pre-dial 911. You're going to need the police here.
