To my knowledge, Suboxone will no more have an affect on your son's mood as any opioid/opiate would -- EXCEPT -- for the fact that he can't get high on it. I will tell you (from personal experience) this can be frustrating for the individual for whom Suboxone does not completely curb cravings. For the vast majority, bupe (at properly prescribed dosages) does curb cravings (completely in fact). It did not for me. I have had FEWER physical cravings since being off the Suboxone. I will admit that I certainly did feel grouchy when jonesing and having no way for my DOC to get me high. I understand if that's what's happening with your son.

The other possibility is that your son simply doesn't want to stop using. Suboxone does not cure addiction. It is an aid for those who want to quit.

Then again, your son could be determined to quit but the Suboxone is truly not curbing his cravings. Perhaps, he may want to speak to a doctor about methadone if he is unable to get clean without any replacements. Has he ever gone to rehab and then into sober living?
