My advise is diet and exercise. Cut the carbs from your diet and eat 6 smaller meals a day, maybe some carbs in the morning none after lunch, increase the protein, ie chicken, fish, lean meat and eggs. start some weight bearing exercises, the more muscle you have the more fat you will burn. No point focussing on too many crunches, you cant see abs beneath a gut anyway. Drink plenty of water.
Weight loss dugs will on help for those last few lbs anyway. When you are ready for that try some carnitine, its natural and should not affect and meds.
