Bipolar Disoder is the same thing as Manic-Depression. There are several types of Bipolar, but generally a person with bipolar cycles from a manic *high* into depression. There are medications that help treat abipolar, but it is not curable.
Symptoms vary from person to person, but common symptoms include time periods of depression and or suicidal thoughts....there's a bunch of symptoms that are depression.
In mania, people act differently. Some are very *high* and happy...very grandiose, invinsible...others can be aggitated and angry when manic. Common symptoms of mania are sexual acting out, spending money, rapid speech and thoughts , inability to sit still, insomia, plus others.
Cycles from depression can occur as frequently as a few times a day to every few months.
Hope this helps some
