I had to have a discogram prior to my last spinal fusion. I will not lie to you,it was painful. But it was not unbearable. I only used Motrin and I alternated between ice packs and the heating pad. That seemed to help me more than anything. Good luck to you on your back surgery!! It was the best thing that I could have done. I have a three level fusion w/hardware.
