Facing surgery

Hi, everyone:
I ordinarily post in Substance Abuse, but am facing an issue that perhaps y'all can help me with.

I had cancer surgery in August, radical nephrectomy: major surgery to remove a cancerous kidney. Found out yesterday that the incision is herniating and they will need to go back in.

I am only 63 days into opiate recovery, have a home group, sponsor and still attend IOP. I have been in the rooms of AA for 25 some years, so the road is not new to me, but facing the probability of narcotic meds is brand new and much sooner than expected.

I am going to talk with my sponsor today but, meanwhile, does anyone have experience to share? I do have someone trustworthy that can hold the meds if necessary.

I know it appears I am projecting, but my IOP counselor stresses that I have a plan in place just in case.

TIA,
