| One day at a time does work
Hi all
After logging on and reading some of the recent posts i felt compelled to write and say RECOVERY is not a myth and can be obtained. I myself have been in recovery from Bulimic/Compulsive overeating for over eleven years and i need to let people know that i have only managed this one day at a time. I have heard many arguements over the years as to why food addiction is hard to get under control and i'm sorry but i do not buy into this. I was a hopeless food addict and came to recovery on my knees after a failed suicide bid, i listened to others in recovery and did what they told me worked for them. I personally do not believe we are afflicted more than other addicts because we have to eat to stay alive, by working my program one day at a time the obsession to compulsively overeat/undereat has been lifted. I believe in the promises of the program that as long as i continue to work on myself the preoccupation with food diminishes and i am able to live free from my addiction just like others who suffer from any form of addiction.
I am only speaking for myself, and know that everyone is on a different journey but i am accountable for the message i carry, and my message is that recovery is not only available but a wonderful way to live, if i can recover one day at a time then so can others, i am no-one special, i was given the twelve steps to use and i use them everyday of my life. I hope i have not offended anyone here but i needed to shout aloud that if you want recovery you have to work for it God knows i definetly spent enough time and energy on my desease i now choose to use this time and energy in my recovery.
