Great passage, it makes me think to the book where it says we are born again.

That has always implied growth moving forward...being sober is hardly sufficient (in fact, it is quite miserable for an alcoholic). I need a purpose, a reason to live...just getting rid of alcohol and it's intake never worked for very long.

Of course - one should stop drinking first.

I have no doubt that the "rude awakening" is quite rude, and rather unpleasant. If that alone gets me to see each day as a new opportunity to grow in understanding and effectiveness with the new life I have been graced with - then fear has it's place.
