For much of my life, one of the principles I lived by was "every man for himself." Always asking myself "what's in it for me?"
Now I try to put the needs of others before my own - to be kind, to be helpful. These days are always the most rewarding, the most peaceful. The miserable days can usually be traced back to my own selfishness.
This seemed counter-intuitive at first but once I started to take the focus off myself, life became so much better. It feels so natural now, like this is how I am meant to live.
