On PGR missions where we have a lot of bikes we usually ride staggered for safety reasons. We tighten up at intersections and when traveling we try and keep a close formation. We do ride parade (2 wide) but not at highway speeds.

I ride with a couple of guys from California who like to ride side by side, but on these Ozark hills and curves most riders stagger to straighten out some of the curves. The oncoming cages also straighten the curves, so you never know how much room you're gonna need.
