I did not use drugs so did get what I needed from AA. There were many that were alcoholic and also addicted to drugs that felt uncomfortable in either group...AA or NA.
My Brother detoxed from his DOC using alcohol and now is drinking more heavy than he intended to do to taper off the alcohol. When I talked with him the last time he felt he couldn't get off the alcohol by himself. His son is looking into a medical detox for him.
He has been to several in-patient programs but it was just a "joke" to him & the last time he was court ordered to go he didn't do the follow-up out-patient group so still has a warrant out for him.
He just had a heart attack, did not stay in the hospital, that scared him so he is really serious about cleaning up. He has a doctor now that is willing to help him when he is ready to help himself. He is still playing games with himself as the pawn.
His son is working on his 10th year clean & sober and his girlfriend just celebrated her 9th year clean & sober. Also the good friend my Brother is living with has 10 years clean & sober so he has some good support.
I don't think he has given AA a try & that is what helped me stay sober. I know there are many ways to get & stay sober because each person is different as to what will help them...some just never make it.
I had no idea he was into methametaphine (sp) but my nephew thinks it was over ten years so that is quite hard to quit on his own for sure. My nephew had to quit going to see his Dad because it was a very big trigger for him.
I hope you get a good turn-out for your group...the name is important so it can be recognized the same as the other programs.
