That which does not kill you
That which does not kill you
Makes you stronger
For the heart’s like any other muscle
Without pain there is no gain
That which prunes the ego
Nurtures the soul
The two grow close together
And must share the light of day
That which delivers grief
Fortifies character
For only after grieving is ended
Can life renew again
That which weighs us down
Builds a taunt’er resolve
For when the load is lifted
We can bound to heights anew
That which knocks us down
Shines light on our foundation
For sometimes this perspective
Lets us seek out firmer ground
That which is lost
Is poignantly set free
For a man should measure his wealth
By that which he does not need
That which raises our fears
Heightens our vigilance
With a wolf staring us down
We can not afford to lower our guard
That which injects bereavement
Drills us with reminiscence
For memories chiseled into our soul
Are as words carved in stone
