Hunger can take many forms. I have confused "emotional hunger" for food hunger.

Pause before you eat and ask examine carefully if you are really food hungry. If not, wait. Difficult feelings will arise. We eat to stuff them or numb them. Stay with them. If you need to cry...then cry. If you are bored then start a project. Or just sit and observe the feeling. It will pass.
