I have this exact same problem... I am a moderate drinker during the week, but drink more heavily on the weekends, "partying" which often turns very negative and many consequences for me... I have nightmares and insomnia (except when I am drinking and pass out) almost every night. I take a prescription medication and it sometimes helps, but I cannot take natural herbal remedies, like melatonin as they make my dreams vividly real, exhausting and sometimes horrifying. Definitely see your doctor- sleep aids help!
ps. I am now sober 3 days and plan to continue through my weekend!!
