I have taken Valerian for insomnia and did find it helped relax me, although it wasn't strong enough to put me to sleep. Doesn't leave you feeling groggy at all the next morning, which is nice. It smells terrible though! Make sure you keep it in a ziploc baggie or something to block out the smell! It made me a little nauseous too, if that happens maybe take it with a little snack should help...
