Several years ago I was diagnosed with CFS. I remember telling family members, rather excitedly simply because a diagnosis had finally been made. Their initial reactions floored me,"Well, great, so you can just catch up on some sleep and you'll be ok then, right?"

Wrong!

A few years later, I had found out that I had been misdiagnosed, what I actually have is Lupus. I'd like to make it clear here that I am NOT suggesting that anyone who has been diagnosed with CFS may have Lupus. I simply bring this up because with Lupus, I have the same, "I need sleep and can't ever get enough" syndrome. People who are uninformed about Lupus, CFS, or any other disease don't always understand that we aren't lazy, it's the diseases we have that cause us to require different amts. of rest. It still amazes me that no one questions a Diabetic for example needing to follow a different diet to remain healthy. But put a name such as Chronic Fatigue on a disease, and laziness seems to still come to mind for many.

I can see where you had/have a certain amt.of fear when prescribed Ritalin. My Son had to take it during his school years due to ADHD w/ hyperactivity. If it's prescribed to someone with legitimate medical reasons for needing it, it can be a wonder drug. Unfortunately, as with so many other narcotics, in the wrong hands, it's abused.
