I'm not so sure anti depressants are necessarily just prescribed for detox if that's what you're asking.

I have had Dr.'s tell me that a great number of alcoholics actually do suffer from clinical depression and it's only magnified by drinking. Most people don't seek out meds for depression while they are drinking. They (we) simply think the depression is due to drinking. Each time I went into detox, one of the first questions the Dr. asked me was if I was taking my prescribed meds for depression, in my case, Prozac. No, I had stopped when I relapsed. And I imagine that drinking would pretty much make anti depressant meds not work at all. Kinda like canceling out its benefits.

Since July '05, I consider my Prozac a part of my Recovery plan.
