The Real GPS (God's Positioning System)

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to share a neat story from a conversation that a friend and I had recently. I've had a GPS unit for a while and he recently got one for his car and was talking about all the cool features. After a bit of chat on our tech toys we turned to talking about God.

He mentioned that as Christians we should all have a built in GPS, God's Positioning System. We talked more and noted the similarities in the technological GPS and our Heavenly Father.

As my friend was driving around he was using his GPS to get everywhere. To the store - even though he'd gone 100 times before, to get home - even though he knew the way, etc. He commented that sometimes he went into unfamiliar areas and the GPS was great in keeping him on track. But he also mentioned that sometimes when he was going somewhere and knew how to get there that he'd question the GPS when it told him to go a certain direction - sometimes he'd listen to it and sometimes he wouldn't. The times he didn't follow the directions a polite female voice said "Off course - rerouting" and then the new directions would be given to him. However, this updated course sometimes took him through rough terrain - potholes, detours, construction and bad neighborhoods - but he'd eventually make it to his destination. The GPS unit is made to always pick the quickest route, but he has to follow that route, and if there's a blockage in the way that can be avoided (traffic jam, accident) the GPS will automatically find the best way around it.

Wow... I don't even think he realized all that he said.

Isn't that exactly the way our God's Positioning System works? Seem even if we know the way he can still be with us and guide us, no matter how often we take the journey. And how many times have we thought we knew what we were doing when God prompted us in another direction? Sometimes we listen to him and sometimes we don't. And when we don't, we get off course. If we listen there's that still small voice (1 Kings 19:11-12) saying to us. "You're off course, I'm rerouting you." But we've got to LISTEN to the voice for the directions to do us any good.

When God gives us a destination he always means for us to take the quickest, easiest, most efficient route. He evens makes allowances if something gets in the way of the original path and we still get to the destination in the quickest way possible.

We can take ourselves off-course in the plans God has for us. If we choose to get off course then God will reroute us with His GPS - we can still get to our destination but we might have to go through some areas / things that we could have avoided if we'd followed his original directions.

I hope this encourages someone, it definitely encouraged me. I hope that everyone is able to tune in and listen to that voice on your very own GPS system!
