Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). In ECT, electrical currents are passed through the brain to trigger a seizure. Although many people are leery of ECT and its side effects, it typically offers fast, effective relief of depression symptoms.

Those of you who know me....know i've recently had 12 of these shock treatments and i'd just like to say that even tho i've been somewhat frustrated about certain things i wasn't expecting (b/c i had been mis-informed by one of the few ECT docs in my state whom i HIGHLY trusted several years ago)....
I wouldn't trade it.
The amnesia issues and things have been VERY MUCH worth saving me from suffering anyting even close to what i went through during my last major depressive episode 4 years ago. That episode lasted 2 years and had me often sleeping 22-23 hours a day for weeks and months on end (waking only to eat, drink, smoke or go to the bathroom). It even got to the point where my mom had to literally come over to my home and fix me a sandwhich and a glass of water or else i would not have had anything and was already on the verge of dehydration.....i literally just did NOT have the physical strength to hardly do anything but sleep. And as much as i hate admitting it....i often went weeks without bathing or even changing clothes.
Rather than go through that again....for the first time in my life i became what i consider to be truely suicidal when this 3rd major depressive episode began and writing good-bye letters was something on my mind way too much.
ECT changed ALL that in about 2 months time.....actually, i was already better by the 2nd and 3rd treatment.
Just wanted to share.
THANKS AGAIN TEACH!!!!
