I've been delinquent in this area many times also. A combination of factors come into play. First, I had three small childeren and a wife early in sobriety. I had to go back to school, get a degree, climb the ladder at work in order to provide the family a decent life. Between family, work, and school I managed to still go to meetings but really did not do much in terms of sponsoring. What I did do was volunteer for jobs (coffee maker, bookie, treasurer). I also coordinated a few recovery retreats and did other administrative tasks that supported group activities.
I also have to take into account my own personality in terms of where I can be of best use in service. I'm introverted and also prone to social anxiety. This makes me a little shy until I get to know someone. It also makes me appear aloof. Sponsorship might best be left to those who are gifted in personal, one-on-one communication.
