Oh ladies!! We did excellent at the administration building today!! I felt your presence I am sure!! I could not have done it alone! I was so very scared of being scared!!
The family advocate, Roz, and daughter Jenna and me all went down there. We were told at the reception desk that we had to have an appointment with the director in order to see him. Roz asked where his office was, so we could make an appointment. Roz asked about a grievance proceedure and their manual. A supervisor came out and gave us the grievance info.
We then went down to find the director's office, and low and behold met him in the hallway. He was extrememly rude and arrogant to us!!!!! Made Roz very mad! OOhhh!! thought she would bite him!! Many passersby were stopping and hanging around to hear the squabble!! (And i did not pass out cause you all were holding me up!!) He said the kids are in my custody, are being taken care of, and what is your problem? He ignored the business card which she handed him and demanded that she tell him who she was!!! The exchanges were very heated and powerful!!
After this, we all jumped on Roz's broom and went to the 7th floor to speak to the county commissioners...we were very angry, to say the least!! I know all three democratic commissioners, as I have worked on all of their campaigns in the past. Especially when I ran headquarters in 1992. One of them was a treasurer then and the other one was running for office.
The commissioners asked if we would be willing to go on record with the complaint against the director, and jumped at the chance! So, then I found us sitting in the conference room, being recorded. (And I still did not pass out, I know everyones arms are getting sore now!!)
After about an hour of talking, the commissioners agreed to ask the state to come in and review my file!!!!!!! And to speed up the grievance and records requests that I had given them months ago. They did so after Roz explained what state regs and so forth that they were not in compliance with by ignoring my requests!!!
We left there and went back down to the second floor where we proceeded to all three get into another hallway battle with the agency's attorney!!! Oh! She was mean and nasty!! And had a lot of excuses and lies!!!! My daughter even got in on this one!! I think maybe she was trying to make us SO MAD that we would do something really foolish!! But we did not.
This all took most of the day!!! My head is still spinning from it all!! I cannot believe that we did as much as we did!! When I have went there on my own, I have got nowhere!!
