They don't show up in our own posts as we view them. But the other members can see them in your posts, just like you see them in everybody elses. That way we can't thank ourselves. It's just the way the program works.
I can see the Thank You button in all of your posts, but it is not viewable to me in my post here, but you guys can see it.
