Some people would crucify me for saying this, but I'm not opposed to the idea of using chemicals to produce happiness in principle. And laws against pursuing happiness are antithetical to the American notion of liberty. And since when is happiness such a bad thing?

However... I am opposed to the idea, not because it's illegal, not because it's immoral, but because after years of trying every form of alleged chemical-happiness under the sun, I've concluded that it JUST DOESN'T WORK.

Will you really be happier? Only at first. Soon you're taking the drugs just to stave off unhappiness. Meanwhile your exposure to risk (health risks, legal risks, financial risks, relationship risks) skyrockets.

I've never known anybody to use opiates moderately and keep things under control. In every single case I've ever witnessed (and that's a LOT) it spirals out of control. Vicodin leads to morphine. Morphine leads to oxycodone. Oxycodone leads to heroin. And if you're lucky enough to not kill yourself by the time you reach the heroin stage, believe me friend, you're luck is about to run out.
