| Grounding
I have been up and down and inside out lately. One thing that has kept me from going over the edge has been an excercise I was taught at the VA. Sometimes I need to reel myself in. I thought I'd share it with others inhopes it might help. The doctor taught me an excercise called grounding. I've been able to apply it either at home or on the go. The secret, is to remember to use it. What he had me do was sit down. Make a mental note of where I am. Then what I am wearing. He then had me take a mental inventory of the room. First count and make note of the colors of walls and rug. Then the pictures on the wall. Any plants in the room count them. I can even do this while on a bus. I use signs, buildings and people. This is really helpful after a PTSD session. Hope this helps. I've heard of other methods of grounding also. Anyone else have any suggestions? I'd love to learn them too.
