I hate to sound obnoxious, but it doesn't sound like you really quit booze - you replaced it. (I don't mean this in any kind of rude way - only that the truth sucks sometimes.)
I watched my mother do this exact thing. She didn't have the support of my father either at the time (because he was in such deep denial). He was so happy that she quit drinking after 30 years of crazy drunken behavior that he hardly noticed all the pills around the house, the FedEx trucks coming every day that my mother would actually sit on the front stoop and wait for, the internet pharmacy orders on his credit card...
In the end she was drinking
and taking the pills - basically spending her life comatose.
I came to visit them after 8 years of no contact and it was surreal. My mom was like a mummy in bed, sometimes for days at a time. There were pills
everywhere! I went to put sugar in my tea one morning and I poured pills out of the sugar bowl. (not making that up)
She finally got help. She still struggles with addiction/alcoholism. My father refuses to attend al-anon or therapy.
