I haven't looked at every plug-in available, but I haven't seen one yet that automatically puts someone in a user group based on information entered at registration. It would have to be done manually by the mods or admins by offering public joinable groups with set permissions. I don't think we have a big enough problem to take it to that level yet and it would cause us a lot of extra work.
I understand that it's easy to make a mistake when going through the "new posts" function or entering through RSS feed. It even happens with the mods from time to time. We've only had a handful of posts that were purposely posted in the wrong forum so I think we can leave it as it is for now.
