i hate to pay for a prescription i won't even take, maybe i just shouldn't get it...i don't know....
Spellings are as follows. Amitriptyline, notriptyline. While both are tricyclic ADs, Pamelor is the newer one. It is better tolerated and has less sedation (believe it or not lol) than Elavil. It is still quite sedating however, so if that's a big trigger for you, then of course you know yourself the best.

Btw. this is funny it made me chuckle: "has anyone ever taken pamelor? i was prescribed it last week to help with migraines, but am thinking of finally getting it filled (funny, how i'm so scared to take meds except opiates, lol)"

And some more help:

"don't know if i want to try it or not, i also wonder since it is an antidepressant, if it might help me in that regard"

You'd be surprised at the number of medicines doctors use for off-label, experimental, and dynamic or evolving purposes. The answer is yes, many antidepressants of the tricyclic class (and some other classes affecting both serotonergic and norepinephrinergic reuptake) can inhibit pain signals.

Most often used for pain associated with neuropathy (which literally means disease of the nerves), your Pamelor is actually used as a preventive tool against migraine--a neurological disease! Moreover, it can actually work faster (yay!) and in smaller doses (yes!) than are indicated for depression.

So...

Anything else ?
