Spritual but not religious

For me the hardest part of early recovery was the constant reference to God in the Big Book and Steps. While raised a Presbyterian (very liberal Protestant) I have a scientific background and didn't believe in the Christian concept of a Higher Power. And, in the beginning, praying to turn my will over to a higher power was impossible. Add to that, I spent a year or so trying to figure out what/who God is Finally I asked for guidance and found AA is broad enough to work for someone like me. I learned to pray "I am willing to be willing to turn my power over...." and I learned that I can choose anything as my HP. I choose the collective consciousness of AA rooms as my HP, and it still works for me.
