| I Shall Not Grow Old

If night and loneliness disrupt my peace,
I think of all the glories of the day;
When chilling winter winds are loath to cease,
I still remember warmth and flowering May.
If I accept each challenge with a will
And laugh with youth and lend a child my hand,
I will not stop to think of every ill
While trying other lives to understand.
If I have loved my friends for their true worth
In trying times and when their fortunes shone,
There could not be a greater joy on earth
Than friendship ties to cherish as my own.
For youth is fleeting as a moth's white wings,
But age finds daily joy in simple things.
