During my acute withdrawal phase I took either an Ambien or .25 mg Xanax (MD prescribed, as was the HC that got me into trouble in the first place) on those nights when I just HAD to get some sleep. Those meds really helped. I don't care for either otherwise and so there isn't much chance I'd be tempted to abuse them. I can't speak for others.
My point: IMHO there is nothing wrong with short-term pharmaceutical assistance to make it through this rough period. Why suffer needlessly? (OTOH I acknowledge the value of suffering to deter a future relapse, but that's "academic" at this point).
One good night of sleep might really lift your spirits. Talk to your MD.
Good luck today.
