Recovery without pain

Posted by info on December 18th, 2007

DANA POINT, CA – SouthCoast Recovery, a state-licensed California drug rehab center, is pleased to announce operation its own state-licensed drug and alcohol detox facility.

Detox doesn’t have to be painful. Previously, clients admitted to SouthCoast Recovery were sent to an outside facility for detoxification procedures. With the addition of a state-licensed detox, clients are now admitted to a SouthCoast residential home specifically designed for medically supervised drug detox. “The addition of our detox facility is an exciting venture,” says Executive Director, Dennis Larkin. “We’re thrilled to be able to offer this component as another layer of support to our clients.”

Initial withdrawal during detox from alcohol or drugs can be physically distressing, painful and even dangerous. The goal is to stabilize and minimize the physical pain of withdrawal symptoms. Because a high relapse rate can be linked to an ineffective or painful detox, this specialized phase of drug and alcohol treatment provides another layer of continuity to the program. Clients are able to rest and relax while recuperating, but may also participate in the full breadth of the treatment program as their physical comfort allows.

Dr. Daniel Brockett, M.D., supervises each stage of a client’s detox. Clients are evaluated to determine the level of treatment and are prescribed medication, as necessary, to ease cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Clients receive 24-hour care in a comfortable residential home including regular blood pressure checks to ensure safe withdrawal. When clients are physically stable, one-on-one and group counseling are introduced along with educational materials. Nutritious meals are prepared on a daily basis. Herbal remedies may also be combined with natural healing components to help the body through withdrawal. Massage therapy may also be used to help release toxins during the detox phase.

This process doesn’t have to be painful. With the addition of its state-licensed, medically supervised drug and alcohol detox program, SouthCoast Recovery is now equipped to handle all stages of the recovery process. This personal attention allows clients to comfortably progress to the next level of recovery.

State-licensed SouthCoast Recovery

DANA POINT, CA – SouthCoast Recovery, a state-licensed California drug rehab center, is pleased to announce the addition of a seventh home in the Dana Point highlands to its residential treatment facility. This 7,000 square foot upscale home adds a new dimension to the treatment program.

SouthCoast Recovery has been experiencing tremendous growth over the past year and a half. “I’m proud to be part of the team fueling the expansion. We have a first class group of people all with their hearts in the right place.” says Marketing Director, Tom Petersen. Part of this growth includes the addition of new facilities, with the most recent being an upscale twelve-bed unit in the Dana Point highlands.

The new house is a 7,000 square foot unique designer home perfectly suited to the needs of the more discriminating client in recovery. The facility features a pool and ocean view coupled with unique design elements sure to make the experience as comfortable as possible.

“We’re very happy to introduce a more upscale residential facility to our already excellent program. The diversification we offer allows us to serve varying client needs,” says Krishna Jessick, Program Director for SouthCoast Recovery.

SouthCoast Recovery is a leading drug rehab center in south Orange County located near some of the best beaches in southern California. They offer individualized treatment programs in alcohol, cocaine, heroin, opiates and methamphetamine addiction. Specialized tracks include gender specific, Christian and LGBT-friendly.

SouthCoast Recovery was founded by CEO Dennis Larkin in 1994. Like many note-worthy companies, the initial office was run out of the garage of a residential house. Now in its 14th year, this thriving drug treatment facility has seven homes in the upscale beach community of Dana Point, California. “The incredible environment and support of the local recovery community in south Orange County is unparalleled,” says Larkin. The ease of locating quality sponsorship and employment during the residential program encourages many clients to relocate to the area. South Orange County is fast becoming known as a mecca for recovery.

Clients entering drug and alcohol treatment at SouthCoast Recovery are assigned to one of the residential homes, either co-ed or gender-specific, depending upon their personal treatment program. SouthCoast Recovery offers 30, 60 and 90-day residential treatment as well as 6-month transitional programs at their California rehab center.

Sober Pacific Living Home offers the support of experienced staff, the camaraderie of other recovering residents, access to twelve-step meetings and physical fitness facilities.

June 26, 2007 - SouthCoast Recovery Announces 90 Day Heroin Treatment Program - SouthCoast Recovery is proud to introduce an exceptionally effective treatment program for heroin addiction.
Opiates (oxycontin, Codeine, Darvocet, Demerol, Fentanyl, Heroin, Morphine) are the new drugs of choice for America’s youth and we have seen a huge increased in admission to our treatment facility listing opiates or some combination of opiates with other drugs as their primary addiction. Noticing this increase led our team to develop a new treatment protocol (The SouthCoast Method™) to more effectively treat this type of addiction. On June 1, 2007, our first client was admitted to our Heroin Addiction Program with promising results. The new program works like this:
It is the experience of SouthCoast Recovery that heroin addiction needs to be approached in a very particular way. Due to the physical and psychological effects of heroin, opiates and opioids of all kinds, South Coast Recovery has developed a unique treatment program for people addicted to these types of drugs. Heroin addicts have a very high relapse rate during the early states of recovery due to the physical pain involved. The body has cravings that the brain interprets as a signal that the body is in pain. Our heroin treatment program recommends that the client to be prescribed medications that decrease this level of pain for the first 10-14 days. These analgesic drugs (suboxone or naltrexone) block the transmission of pain messages to the brain thereby decreasing the level of pain. We have experienced a 88% success rate during the first two weeks of recovery using this method versus a 22% success rate using no opiate blockers.
SouthCoast Recovery has extensive experience with heroin and opiate addictions of all kinds. We have treated opiate addictions for over 13 years. The first stage is to physically stabilize the person. We refer our clients to an addiction medicine specialist for evaluation and opiate blocking medications, if necessary. If the client needs medically detox, they are referred to a comfortable detox facility.
Once a person is stabilized and has an opiate blocker medication, the learning begins. Each client is evaluated by our psychologist, Dr. Robert Buley, to identify issues and goals. Our marriage and family therapist identifies relationship and family issues. Our addiction treatment specialists give individual attention and evaluation. Once the person is properly evaluated, a treatment plan is developed which ensures the best possibility of success. The root of the problem is identified and treated through individual and group sessions.
South Coast Recovery, founded by Dennis Larkin, a former drug addict himself, is a primary drug rehab and alcohol treatment center with an extended treatment transitional program. The program lasts from 30 days to one year, depending on one’s progress, and includes 30 people at a time working with seven-ten staff members. Most get jobs while in the program. The desire to become sober and the willingness to stop using all mind-altering chemical substances are the most important — and therefore the first essential steps on the road to recovery.

SouthCoast Recovery opened new Southern California office

Posted by info on February 8th, 2007

February 7, 2007 — SouthCoast Recovery has opened a beautiful new office in Southern California that is solely dedicated to their client’s alcohol treatment and drug rehab needs. Paul LaMorticella, a world-renowned interior designer, graced the drug and alcohol treatment center’s facility with his artistic talent. The new building consists of six individual counseling offices, two group counseling classrooms, and two acupuncture and massage therapy rooms all arranged to provide a serene environment for treatment. The state of the art center enhances SouthCoast Recovery’s success as a social-model alcohol and drug treatment center, which teaches clients how to structure their day and live as a productive, sober member in society.

The Southern California Treatment Center believes it is imperative to create a microcosm of the real world in order to teach alcoholics and drug addicts how to implement recovery into their daily life. In a structured-realistic environment, SouthCoast has the ability to work with their clients on how to apply their new tools and coping skills, and how grow up and become accountable and responsible. Now, having a separate office facility, the clients are held responsible to plan appropriately for each day.

SouthCoast Recovery recognizes that utilizing their new facility gives their clients a taste of what it is like to go to work or school every day. Most alcoholics or drug addicts lose this form of discipline throughout their using. The clients are learning accountability and structure.

“The overwhelming emptiness inside of me destroyed my purpose, my judgment, my ambition, and even my desire to live. I lost jobs, homes, driving privileges, families and friends and my freedom; and still, I could not stop using. (Steve S.)

The treatment facility’s goal is to help transition their clients through this uncomfortable change from addiction into a lifestyle of recovery. Through SouthCoast’s treatment, the clients begin to build habits of adult behavior. They wake up, make their beds, and get spiritually centered for their day. Then, off to work! The clients go to the new facility for their daily intensive counseling. In the late afternoon, the clients are transported to the local 24-Hour Fitness to take care of their physical well-being. They end the day preparing dinner and going off to a 12-step meeting. Sounds exhausting; however, addressing all aspects of a human being, the mental, the physical, and the spiritual, works!

SouthCoast offers effective affordable and low cost drug rehab, alcohol treatment, recovery and treatment programs in California. We build upon the 12-Step Recovery program by integrating the most current medical and psychological treatments into the SouthCoast Methodâ„¢. We are a recovery treatment center that offers short and long term addiction treatment programs and understands difficult addictions to alcohol, marijuana, methamphetamine (crystal, meth, crank), cocaine (crack, rock, powder), heroin (morphine, methadone, smack, suboxone), party drugs (GHB, ketamine) and similar mind altering substances. We offer affordable drug rehab, alternative sentencing, alcohol rehabilitation and court liaison assistance. Our drug treatment and alcohol rehab center works!

Todays Family to Feature South Coast Recovery

Posted by info on January 16th, 2007

Dana Point, CA, — PTG Studios is pleased to announce the selection of South Coast Recovery of Dana Point, CA, for its innovative, educational television series, Today’s Family. The center is featured in a segment on “choosing a safe and effective recovery program” for a New Lease on Life that is currently airing on cable networks around the country.

South Coast Recovery, founded by Dennis Larkin, a former drug addict himself, is a transitional learning center for living sober. The program lasts from 90 days to two years, depending on one’s progress, and includes 30 people at a time working with seven-ten staff members. Most get jobs while in the program. The desire to become sober and the willingness to stop using all mind-altering chemical substances are the most important — and therefore the first essential steps on the road to recovery. Experience has shown that after withdrawal, recovery falls into three phases, each lasting approximately a year or more—saving your life, enjoying your life and extending your life.

South Coast is a program for the client who needs a supportive recovery environment in which to live for a period of time to readjust his/her life, a dynamic place where an individual may continue to address issues that are vital to his/her recovery. In some cases, clients just need a sober living environment to learn life skills and regain their maximum cognitive functioning, and continue to “Turn a Life Around.”

Experience has shown that an extended term sober living program acts as a safety net for clients who often get “stuck” in the beginning or at three, six or nine months of sobriety. It also serves as a safe sober living place to feel and verbalize issues that have not been realized or have been inappropriate to address in an individual’s life.

Their Credo is: “Without a dream a person has no purpose; without a purpose an individual has no goals; without a goal to strive towards, our life has no destination; without a destination, we just drift. Having a dream and working toward that dream gives our life a goal, a destination, a purpose, and best of all – meaning.”

It is a 12-step oriented program with Christian track available, featuring weekly workshops in: Relapse Prevention, Anger Management, Goal Setting, Values Clarification, Skills Development, Self-Esteem, Life Planning Skills, Relationships, Group Process, and more. South Coast also offers help with education requirements, and teaches computer literacy.

“We help people put their lives back together so they can function, ” said Larkin.
