Encourage Yourself towards Recovery

Ever since that our major control comes to me all the way through the people, I can see that by keeping people at a distance I can also keep my Higher Power at distance. My Higher Power is nearer to me than I think, and I can experience Him by loving people and allowing people to love me. But I can neither love nor be loved if I allow my secrets to get in the way.

Think about the secrets you hold about yourself, things you do not tell even your closest friends or loved ones. Perhaps you have done something you believe is wrong, or maybe you are harboring an addiction - to drugs, alcohol, food, the Internet - that you are unable to overcome. Maybe you have tried to go cold turkey and failed, and the addiction has become such that it haunts you. Yet, rather than reach out for help, you keep everything inside and do your best to hide the problem from people who care about you, and can possibly help you overcome these demons.

Whether you acknowledge your Higher Power as a deity or as a powerful sense of self, the fact remains that if you do not reach out to others for assistance, this Higher Power can be rendered useless. The serenity and peace you have experienced within this power can no longer comfort you unless you speak up. The secret of addiction can fester to a point, sadly, when you may be unable to reach out at all.

If you are keeping the secret addiction hidden, know that your continued silence will only further your problems. Reach out to your Higher Power by reaching out to those who care for you. Do not fear retribution or pity, as a true friend will be concerned first with helping your recovery. You will find the proper control and cheerfulness through this article release.
